This class will serve as an introductory course in the science of Tajwid and Qur’anic recitation. This course will cover the articulation points of the letters (al-makharij), the rules of noon and meem sakina and elongation (al-madd). In addition to covering rules, students will practice reading in class and as homework.
Requirements:
Students must be able to read the Qur’an in Arabic with some fluidity; and recognize and know the names of Arabic letters and vowels. (However, understanding Arabic is not necessary.) Please be prepared to take notes; paper is recommended. Please also bring a copy of the Quran in Arabic script that you can easily read. You will also be required to practice reading at home regularly.
